At the moment, The Slormancer only has three classes, which is fairly minuscule for this type of experience however, the game makes up for this limitation through an overabundance of weapons and especially abilities. Summoned to a world that needs a traditional fantasy hero, players find themselves in over their heads as they try to take down the eponymous villain. While dungeons stick to the first-person rhythm synonymous with the license, the overworld shifts to a top-down perspective, which lends the title a classic role-playing feel that is often missing in the mainline entries.Īnother early access project, The Slormancer takes a comedic approach to the action RPG genre, which already sets it apart from most of its contemporaries. Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is a spin-off that flings Borderlands' core gameplay loop into a traditional fantasy setting. While not as endgame-driven as Diablo, Borderlands is intended to be replayed over and over again, and the games emphasize co-op. Each game has a few Vault Hunters who act as separate classes, each of which comes with a couple of skill trees that alter their playstyles. Gearbox's franchise lives and dies on the strength of its loot system, which is designed to keep players coming back long after they complete a playthrough. Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series XĮver since its debut, Borderlands has been described as FPS Diablo, and that descriptor has stuck around for a reason. Still, if a Diablo fan is searching for another action RPG to play, they have options. Updated Jby Mark Sammut: Diablo 4 is dominating the discourse at the moment, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon. What are some of the best games like Diablo? In June 2023, Diablo 4 hit the scene, garnering a largely positive reception and being labeled as a return to form.Īs Blizzard's franchise casts a wide shadow, plenty of developers have turned to Diablo for inspiration. That said, the 2012 release is a very different experience from its predecessors, both mechanically and visually. In fact, an argument could be made that Diablo 2 has yet to be surpassed in the action RPG sphere, even if some elements of the game are naturally antiquated in this day and age.įollowing a rough launch, Diablo 3 eventually found its footing, developing into a respectable project in its own right. All these decades later, Blizzard's RPG and its immediate sequel are still held in extremely high regard. Definitely both classes worth trying out, but lower quality-of-life and fewer solid general-purpose builds.Diablo launched in 1997 and changed the video game landscape forever. A great many necro builds rely on two minute cooldowns, too, which doesn't help them feel any smoother. For instance, they both depend on getting into melee range to refresh a stupid buff every few seconds (Bone Armor or Soul Harvest). But they are both generally squishy classes and most of their builds are clunky. They both have some quality builds at 70. Necro is even crazier with Corpse Explosion. WD can one-shot everything in t6 w/ Spirit Barrage once they get the Gazing Demise at 14 or whatever. WD and Necro level like the dickens!!! So fast and easy to 70. Crusader has an extremely strong start next season via thorns - crafted level 70 yellows at ~lvl 19 and you can basically just ride your pony through the rest of the game, transitioning smoothly to LoN/LoD Bomb at 70 without particular concern over the Haedrig's Gift. Especially compared to your wiz, where you pop your five minute buffs at the start of a rift and don't have to think about them again. It's not too bad on a PC w/ macros or at least num-locked skills, but it's kind of annoying on console. You typically end up with a build that has to keep 4-5 short-duration cooldowns up as much as possible. Really easy set dungeon, too.Ĭrusader has a lot of fun and mobile builds but almost all of them use almost all the same skills. Barbarian gets a really strong start next season, as the IK set is really easy to get started with (generic buff, so works with any skill you get multipliers for). They are pleasant to level because you get strong AoE as soon as level five or something and can usually gamble a multiplier for early AoE as well. Pretty much every barb build is solid and straight-forward to play for general use. My personal preference for the remaining four you've not tried is barb->crusader->necro->WD. You should probably aim to try everything, with time.
